Granny Smith gold mine - Exploration and Resource definition drilling
2016/2017 exploration expenditures are presented in the Australia regional section.
2017 exploration focused on:
- Resource conversion and extensions to the Wallaby deposit. Expanding the Mineral Resource footprint of the Z120 and Z135 lodes and framing the mineralised zones down to Z150
- Exploration of the broader tenement package with the aim of discovering a new ore deposit outside of Wallaby. Drill programmes targeting depth extensions to the Goanna, Granny Smith and Windich lodes were also completed
- Follow-up infill air core completed on air core anomalies at Mt Lucky. New geological interpretation was completed
- Diamond drilling following up the large air core anomaly at the Northern Fleet area generated a new prospect, Blurry BIF. A loosely defined bedrock mineralised trend over 800m strike with gold in intermediate intrusive rocks and associated with a major N-S structural corridor. This prospect shows great potential as a significant mineralised system and will be a major focus of bedrock drilling in 2018
2018 exploration is directed towards:
- Continued resource and reserve growth at Wallaby through extensions both laterally and at depth
- Assessing the potential of the Blurry BIF area and seeking new opportunities through target generation and testing of anomalies within the greater tenement package
- Follow-up of large areas of anomalism on almost all land air core programmes conducted in 2017
