Update on Agnew Gold Miners

Perth, 11 January 2012: Gold Fields Limited (Gold Fields) (JSE, NYSE, NASDAQ Dubai: GFI) can confirm that the following personnel were injured as a result of an incident underground at the company's Agnew Gold Mine in Australia yesterday (10 January 2012).

The three men were successfully transferred via the Royal Flying Doctor Service to Royal Perth Hospital yesterday afternoon where they are now receiving ongoing treatment. Their injuries are serious however the men are in a stable condition.

"All of us at Gold Fields are concerned about the incident and the condition of the men and their families. We will continue to provide all necessary support for their recovery, which we hope will be rapid," Executive Vice President: Australasia Richard Weston said.

The incident occurred in a new construction area of the mine and involved some steel reinforcing mesh toppling over onto the men. The incident did not involve ground collapse of any kind at the mine.

Gold Fields - Agnew Gold Mine personnel are working with the Department of Mines and Petroleum to determine the cause of the incident.
