Our VP: Mining, Kate Sommerville, has won a resources sector service award from the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM). She will only receive the award later this year, but we wanted to share the good news!

The AusIMM Awards help to promote and raise the overall standard of professional practice in the resources sector. Kate's specific award recognises outstanding service to the AusIMM and our industry.

Kate has been an AusIMM member since 1994 and has held various positions. She is passionate about mentoring women and an industry advocate for women in mining. Kate has also been sharing her knowledge through papers, articles and participating in panel discussions.

Getting involved in industry bodies like AusIMM has both professional and personal benefits. For Kate, these are thought leadership, building relationships with other passionate professionals from our peers, and forming friendships.

It is an opportunity to learn and provide input into industry standards, and applying those to Gold Fields. This year Kate will be involved in the AusIMM's JORC CODE 2020 update. JORC refers to the Australasian Code for Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves. "Gold Fields is on a modernisation journey so I'm keen to provide leadership into shaping that. It's pretty exciting," she says.
