Gold Fields in Peru recently held its first virtual event for employees  and their families to better understand the impact of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic on mental health.

The session, titled ‘Empathy, Respect and Gratitude’, aimed to strengthen the relationship between the company and employees’ families.

Domingo Drago, VP: Corporate Affairs and Sustainable Development for the region, spoke about how Gold Fields has been supporting its neighbouring communities, the Cajamarca region and the country during the pandemic. But he highlighted that, above all, the Company prioritises the wellbeing of its employees and stressed the priority of enabling a healthy work-life balance.

Veronica Valderrama, VP: Human Resources, focused on the importance of living consciously. "We have two paths at this moment: to feel negative or defeatist, or to appreciate this as a time of reflection. Despite the sadness and uncertainty, we have the opportunity to improve our wellbeing," she said.

Supporting the mental health of our people is a priority at our operations globally. All employees and their families have access to free, confidential counselling and support services all hours of the day. These services have provided extra support on mental health issues during lockdown and isolation, as well as how to deal with balancing the dual demands of family and working from home. We have augmented this messaging by additional mental health awareness communication distributed to our employees.
