Kuupol-Kuutor's appointment as Tarkwa mine manager praised

Reports indicate that Catherine Kuupol of Gold Fields has been announced as the new General Manager of the Tarkwa Mine.

Catherine Kuupol's appointment is a milestone as she is the first woman to occupy such a position in the mining industry in Ghana.

Catherine Kuupol is said to come to the position with 20 years of experience in the industry with expertise in gold mining and a proven track record in metallurgical processes.

She will oversee the day-to-day operations of all mine areas, ensuring adherence to Ghana's Minerals and Mining Regulations.

Catherine Kuupol prior to this announcement was the Goldfields' first female Metallurgical Manager, overseeing both the Tarkwa and Damang mines.

Her academic journey begun with a Diploma in Mineral Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) School of Mines in 2002. Building on this foundation, she pursued a Master's degree in Mineral Engineering from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, graduating in 2011. Currently pursuing her Ph.D. at UMaT, Catherine continues to deepen her expertise and understanding in the field.

Her illustrious career began at Golden Star Wassa Mine in 2004, starting as a laboratory metallurgist before progressing through various roles such as shift supervisor, senior plant shift supervisor, and International Cyanide Management Code coordinator. In 2013, she moved to Abosso Gold Fields Limited – Damang Gold Mine as Plant Technical Superintendent, ascending to Unit Manager and assuming leadership as Head of the Metallurgy Department and acted as General Manager at Tarkwa Mine.

Her announcement has been met with praise on especially social media as it is seen as a stepping stone for women to achieve excellence in their various fields of endeavours.
