Gold Fields among mining leaders in WA gender equity workplaces - Gold Industry Group

Two members of The Gold Industry Group, The Perth Mint and Gold Fields, have proudly secured their spots among the highly anticipated list of the Top 101 Workplaces for Women in 2024.

The Top 101 Workplaces for Women in 2024 report was recently unveiled by WORK180, a leading advocate for women's rights and workplace equality. Through their work, WORK180 have built a global community of employers and employees looking to raise the bar for all women in the workforce.

Australia’s gold industry has long recognised that a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion is not only the right thing to do but also essential for driving innovation, creativity, and business success. As such, we are thrilled to celebrate the recognition of our members who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to gender equity and workplace inclusivity.

One of the fundamental pillars of gender equity is ensuring fair and transparent hiring processes. All individuals, regardless of gender, should have equal access to opportunities within the gold industry. This begins with the recruitment process, where companies must create an environment that empowers women from diverse backgrounds to apply and ensures they will be genuinely considered for roles.

In addition to fair and transparent hiring practices, WORK180 evaluates companies based on nine other critical criteria:

1. Representative Leadership: Assessing the representation of women in leadership positions and their influence on organisational decision-making.
2. Flexible Working Arrangements: Providing flexible work options that accommodate diverse needs and lifestyles.
3. Pay Equity: Ensuring equal pay for equal work and addressing any gender pay gaps within the organisation.
4. Shared Caring Responsibility: Supporting employees in balancing work and caregiving responsibilities, including parental leave and return-to-work programs, employers can support their all-important workforce while removing damaging stereotypes.
5. Employee Voice & ERGs: Encouraging employee feedback and fostering employee resource groups (ERGs) to amplify diverse voices and perspectives.
6. Career Development: Offering opportunities for career advancement and professional growth for all employees, regardless of gender.
7. Inclusive and Anti-Discriminatory Culture: Promoting a culture of respect, inclusivity, and zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment. Whilst creating policies and initiatives that raise awareness of different cultures and communities.
8. Employee Safety and Support Services: Providing a safe and supportive work environment, including access to resources for mental health and well-being. These could include Domestic Violence and Abuse (DVA) policies, and Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) that provide independent and anonymous support.
9. Strategic Commitments: Demonstrating a clear and measurable commitment to advancing gender equity and diversity initiatives.
