Osisko forges ahead with expanded exploration in 2024 - BNN Breaking

Friday, 19 January 2024

In a significant move toward sustainable mining and exploration, Osisko Mining Inc. has achieved major milestones in its 2024 operations. The company has successfully connected grid power to the Windfall Project through an 85 km long, 69 kV hydro-electric power line. This achievement marks a transition from diesel-generated electricity to eco-friendly hydroelectricity, reducing both power costs and greenhouse gas emissions at the Windfall Project site.

Indigenous Collaboration and Environmental Consideration

The hydro-electric power line was built in collaboration with the Waswanipi Cree First Nation, reflecting Osisko's commitment to work in harmony with the indigenous communities. In addition, the corporation is undergoing an Environmental Impact Assessment review by COMEX for the Windfall Project. It is anticipated that the Windfall Impact and Benefits Agreement with the Cree First Nation of Waswanipi and the Cree Nation Government will be finalized within 2024, demonstrating a concerted effort to ensure the project's sustainability and benefit to local communities.

Expanding Exploration and Discovery

Furthermore, Osisko has kick-started a 35,000-meter drill program on the Urban-Barry properties in a bid to earn a 70% interest in collaboration with Bonterra Resources Inc. The drilling will primarily focus on the Moss showing, believed to potentially represent the Lynx mineralized system found at the Windfall Project. The regional exploration continues with Windfall Mining Group's claim package, including an extra 30,000 meters of drilling targeting potential gold-bearing structures.

Forecast and Outlook

John Burzynski, Chairman and CEO of Osisko, expressed gratitude to the teams for their work despite challenges such as regional forest fires. He anticipates new Windfall-style deposits to be discovered in the Urban-Barry District. As Osisko continues to focus on the acquisition, exploration, and development of precious metal resource properties in Canada, its commitment to environmental responsibility and collaboration with indigenous communities sets an exemplary model for the mining industry.
