GIG Chair Kelly Carter provides update on recent activities - goldindustrygroup.com.au

Thursday, 28 September 2023

As the year progresses, I'm excited to share some key moments from the Gold Industry Group's (GIG) recent activities. Since our last member update, GIG has been at the forefront of creating engaging and enduring experiences for our sector's communities, some of which I've had the privilege to personally participate in.

One particular highlight was GIG's recent expedition to Gold Fields' Granny Smith mine. CEO Kristy Reilly, along with West Coast Fever players Jhaniele Fowler and Sunday Aryang, travelled to Laverton, in the north-eastern Goldfields. There, they connected with and tested the local community's netball prowess and explored a tour of the mining operations. Feedback from Laverton School is the students are still humming about the athletes' visit, underlining the lasting impact of such experiences. The players were equally thrilled with the opportunity to connect with fans and aspiring netballers (both on and off site!)

Closer to our base in Perth, GIG successfully hosted our inaugural ‘Cheers with Peers' networking evening at Prince Lane in the CBD, marking the commencement of a series of gatherings. We invited members actively contributing to our programs to join the GIG team in an informal setting to foster connections, while collaboratively envisaging the future. The event was successful for both GIG and our attendees, and we are enthusiastic about extending invitations to more members throughout the remainder of the year and into 2024.

We are also thrilled by the expansion of Gold Jobs, with Northern Star Resources adding to the existing members who are sharing their job opportunities to our platform.  This is a fantastic showcase of the breadth of opportunities available in the gold sector right across Australia, and I would encourage all members to get on board.

It's also been a busy time for our National education program and I had the privilege of leading two recent GIG Gold Class sessions at Beehive Montessori School. The opportunity to talk about our industry and run a hands-on STEM sessions to cohorts of attentive and vibrant students was both delightful and rewarding.  This is a great way for our strongest advocates, our people, to be able to inspire and connect with our future workforce, and share their passion for Australia's gold sector. Our Education Coordinator, Georgia Wrait, is available to run training sessions for member companies who want to participate in the program.

With the end of the year upon us, the highly anticipated GIG Corporate Netball Day is on the horizon, with rumours that several teams have already begun training in preparation for the hotly contested title on Friday December 8. If haven't registered your team, be sure to reach out to the GIG Team to secure your spot.

Stay tuned for more updates on our journey and exciting opportunities ahead, I'll be looking forward to seeing you on the court at Gold Netball Centre later in the year.

Kind Regards,
Kelly Carter - Gold Industry Group Chair
