Access to quality education is essential for individual and collective development, because it enables leadership and professional skills to be strengthened to contribute to greater employment opportunities and a better quality of life.
For this reason, Gold Fields, in alliance with the Women's Association Auxiliary to the American Institute of Mining, Petroleum and Energy Engineers – WAAIME, come together to offer opportunities for university training and professional growth for hundreds of young people from different regions of the country through his leadership and extensive knowledge of the sector.
Last Tuesday, the first delivery of WAAIME 2023 scholarships was made to 7 students from the city of Lima, and who are in the 7th and 10th cycle at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería – UNI. With this delivery, there are already more than 770 scholarships awarded by WAAIME, which has been impacting more than 600 low-income students.
It should be noted that the WAAIME scholarships are an initiative that has been supporting young university students for three consecutive years, who, due to their academic excellence, receive support from the association.
Likewise, young people receive intensive coaching training to enhance their soft and technical skills; as well as teamwork to contribute to their professional growth in the careers of Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Oil and Gas Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Geological Engineering.
Change of Board of Directors
Within the framework of the awarding of scholarships, the transfer ceremony of the new WAAIME Board of Directors was also held, in which Verónica Valderrama, Vice President of Human Resources of Gold Fields, handed over the presidency of the association to Patricia Kosa, Gold Fields Legal and Compliance Manager.
"As an organization we have a responsibility to help all youth to continue learning and acquire knowledge for personal and professional development. Companies, like Gold Fields, have to get closer to young people and provide them with innovative tools to encourage them to participate in projects, training, and practices in the mining-energy sector," said Verónica Valderrama.
"Through these scholarships, a positive impact is generated in the lives of young people, both in their personal and professional development. In turn, this generates a multiplier effect to improve Peru's competitiveness, considering that future industry leaders are being trained, talented and highly qualified boys and girls to enter and contribute to the country's mining-energy sector," complemented Patricia Kosa, current president of WAAIME.
In this way, Gold Fields remains firm with its purpose of leaving a positive legacy in all its audiences, betting on supporting initiatives such as WAAIME that ensure access to quality education for young people with limited resources.
