Recognition is granted because the total electrical energy consumed at the Cerro Corona mine in 2022 was zero greenhouse gas emissions.
For the second consecutive year, Gold Fields in Peru received an international certificate that guarantees that the total electrical energy consumed at its Cerro Corona mine in 2022 was Zero (0) greenhouse gas emissions.
This recognition, delivered by the electric power generation company Kallpa, is issued by the International Renewable Energy Certificate -IREC.
Juan Ibazeta Banoni, Maintenance Superintendent, highlighted that this achievement is in line with the commitment that Gold Fields has with the world through the ICMM (International Mining and Metallurgical Council), which indicates that by 2030 we should reduce our absolute emissions of greenhouse gases. greenhouse effect by 30%.
"Like Cerro Corona, this certificate helps us demonstrate a reduction of more than 40% of our absolute emissions, more than fulfilling the commitment assumed by 2030," said the Gold Fields executive.
Gold Fields has been one of the first mining companies in Peru to receive this international certificate that highlights the use of renewable energy, coming from hydroelectric plants operated by Kallpa in Peru.
The IREC certificate delivered by Kallpa is issued by the International Renewable Energy Certificate -IREC-, an organization that operates in countries that account for more than 50% of global electricity consumption, certifying the renewable origin of the energy generation and supply process.
