The project is aimed at those women who decided to take a break from work and dedicate themselves to caring for their children.
In Peru it is estimated that there are more than 9 million women who are mothers, a figure that represents 30% of the population of the entire country, according to INEI data. Likewise, according to the National Household Survey – ENAHO, 48% of mothers work independently, 37% are salaried, and 14% work as Unpaid Family Workers.
With the arrival of the pandemic, the situation of women and mothers changed drastically. Women were more affected than men by the loss of employment and reduced income, added to the situation that many of them also stopped working to dedicate themselves to caring for their sons and daughters and the home.
The participation of women in the labor market has been increasing, however, when women decide to re-enter the labor field, they face great challenges that limit their development as professionals.
Gold Fields, committed to contributing to a more equitable society, identifies the problems experienced by women who decide to return to work after a break due to the birth and upbringing of their children.
To change this scenario and join efforts for a better future of work for female talent, Gold Fields has launched the pilot program "Mama Talent"an innovative initiative that invites the partners of its employees to enhance their skills, competencies and leadership in order to reinforce their employability and entrepreneurship projects in different areas.
"Our culture is characterized by being supportive, inclusive, respectful and empathetic. We work together as a single team to take on challenges that are aligned with our purpose of create value that lasts beyond mining", remarked Verónica Valderrama, Vice President of HR at Gold Fields.
For this reason, he highlighted, "with this initiative, we seek for the participants to reconnect with their professional talent, develop soft skills and improve their employability; with this we promote the co-responsibility of women and men, in addition to generating value for the families of our workers".
"The care of others is of vital importance for the development of humanity and should be revalued. Within this framework, specifically, the work break of women for child care. There are many barriers that women have to face in the workplace and they must be made visible to achieve changes and transformations that promote living diversity and inclusion", commented Claudia Narrea, Assistant Manager of Organizational Culture.
This problem, she added, "is up to all of us, who has not met a woman who has not been able to relocate to work after a break to care for her children and who with great regret put aside her dreams."
"This program seeks to reconnect mothers with their professional dreams by providing them with employability tools and encouraging other companies to incorporate practices that promote the labor inclusion of women," Narrea noted.
How will the pilot program unfold?
"Mama Talento" is aimed at the current couples of Gold Fields employees. The initiative will provide training throughout the year and will cover two curricula: Employability and Entrepreneurship.
During the development of the conferences, it is also sought to generate spaces for team and collaborative work, promote the employability of the participants through workshops with a dependent and independent approach, strengthen networking and promote the professional growth of the participants.
"The Mama Talento program has been an inspiring experience for me in every way, personal and professional. I feel grateful to Verónica Valderrama for her leadership in making this transformative program come true", said Milagros Auad Cabrera, mother, woman, wife and Leader of the Talent Mother Program.
"I am sure that this program will be an inspiration for each participant and an opportunity to reconnect with their personal and professional purpose and above all with their natural talent. And without a doubt, a new work practice that we hope will infect many organizations ", she concluded.
