The Laverton Training Centre (LTC) is so pleased to announce that Gold Fields Australia has committed to a $40,000 donation to support ongoing operations.
The funds from Gold Fields Australia will enable the training centre to continue to provide vocational education training programs to local and regional people who would otherwise be unable to access formal training.
Matt Shackleton, Laverton Training Centre's Chairman, thanked Gold Fields for the funding and for the interest in the local training provider.
"The Laverton Training Centre welcomes the generous contribution from Gold Fields and looks forward to ongoing relationships with their local mine sites", said Matt Shackleton.
"General Manager Mac Jensen has developed strong relationships with instructors and staff at CR TAFE in Kalgoorlie and based on his decades of experience in delivering remote training to Aboriginal people, is driving the success of the LTC. The LTC has only been established for 12 months and has already been able to provide vocational training for 75 students in the northern Goldfields."
"Relationships with corporates like Gold Fields are incredibly important as not only do they contribute funding but will also over time provide real, tangible employment pipelines for those students with an eye to the mining industry and who want to remain employed in the region." said Mr Shackleton.
Gold Fields Australia operates the Granny Smith Gold Mine and the Gruyere Joint Venture Mine (with Joint Venture partner Gold Road) in the northern Goldfields region.
Gold Fields' Executive Vice President Australasia Stuart Mathews extended his congratulations to the Laverton Training Centre on filling such a critical gap in the region.
"Gold Fields understands the importance of supporting training and education initiatives that encourage youth and talent to stay in our State's rural and remote communities," said Mr Mathews.
"Congratulations to Matt and Mac at LTC on building the facility and supporting programs and we are so pleased to have been able to contribute to the program," he said.
"I'm extremely grateful to the passionate teams at Granny Smith and the Gruyere Joint Venture mine site for identifying the Laverton Training Centre as a great fit for our organisations values," he said.
The Laverton Training Centre is looking to have its first cohort of trainees graduate this year with their nationally accredited Certificate II in Regional (Ranger) Operations.
About the Laverton Training Centre
The LTC coordinates a remote training program specifically tailored to working with disadvantaged people who endure low literacy and numeracy levels, intergenerational welfare dependence and trauma, generally poor health, and little or no forms of formal identification; all of which are barriers
to employment. The Centre provides remote access to nationally accredited vocational training and creates opportunities for local Aboriginal people to be trained into local employment through increasing vocational skill sets.
The LTC is an initiative of Australian Potash Limited, with support from traditional owners, the Departments of Education, Training and Workforce Development, and Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) alongside the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission (GEDC), the Shire of Laverton and broader northeastern Goldfield's industry.
The Centre commenced operations in March 2022, after extensive refurbishment works to premises located in Laverton, Western Australia.
