The mining company implemented the project with more than 570,000 soles that benefits 183 residents in the Hualgayoc district, in Cajamarca.
The Gold Fields mining company has been promoting the improvement of meat and wool production in sheep, to promote the improvement of the economy of its neighbors in the Cuadratura farmhouse, in the district of Hualgayoc, Cajamarca.
The main objective of this project is to improve the genetics of the sheep of the inhabitants of the area, through the delivery of lambs of the Corriedale breed, of the Pure By Crossing category to improve the quality of wool and increase the productive yields in meat.
It should be noted that the implementation of this project has contemplated four important activities: the hiring of a specialist for the selection of 356 sheep of the corresponding breed and category, followed by the pre-selection of cattle in specialized production areas, such as Junín and Cerro de Pasco, the latter being the place of origin of the sheep, whose breeding conditions are similar to Cuadrature.
Likewise, the acquisition, sanitary certification and delivery of the sheep to the 183 beneficiaries in the framework of a special ceremony in the La Cuadratura farmhouse. Finally, to give continuity to the sheep health calendar, deworming and vitamin administration were carried out so that they are in the best possible conditions.
Rosa Muñoz, a beneficiary of the program, greeted the Gold Fields company, "because it is a wish that has been expected for a while. Thank God, it is becoming a reality, the sheep are already being delivered to us and we hope that with this project we will improve the quality of life of the quadrature people".
For his part, Eng. Jose Macedo, Superintendent of Social Development at Gold Fields, asked all the beneficiaries of this project to take advantage of it by improving their breeding, "and to get the most out of the sheep that we are delivering since it has a very good genetics."
"Corriedale sheep are dual purpose, they produce wool and meat, the delivery of the lambs will promote the genetic improvement of the sheep in Quadrature. As Gold Fields we feel very happy to be able to contribute to sustainable development" he stressed.
It is worth mentioning that Gold Fields allocated financing of more than 450 thousand soles to make the project a reality.
In this way, Gold Fields assumes the commitment to create value beyond mining, favoring social conditions in its direct area of influence
