Gold Fields' Veronica Valderrama on advancing diversity in mining - Stanton Chase

Tuesday, 10 January 2023

Stanton Chase is pleased to announce the latest edition in its Women and Leadership series.

Women represent only 26.2% of corporate Vice Presidents in the United States. This percentage is even lower in industries like the extractive industry.

There is no doubt that role models like Veronica Valderrama are crucial for women who want to be leaders in the mining industry.

Veronica is Gold Fields' Vice President of Human Resources for the Americas region. Gold Fields is one of the largest gold mining firms in the world. It has a market capitalization of roughly $10.11 billion. It is also listed on both the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange.

Veronica isn't just your run-of-the-mill VP of HR. She's an HR superhero, one of the most recognized HR leaders in the natural resources industry, one of the top five HR managers in Latin America, and the top HR manager in Peru (according to the International Organization of Human Capital Directors).

Fernando Rodriguez, a Senior Partner at Stanton Chase Santiago and Stanton Chase's Regional Sector Leader for Mining in the LATAM region, sat down with Veronica to talk about her success as an HR leader.

In this groundbreaking interview, Veronica shares insight into:

"I would like to be remembered as an agent of change, as someone who improved the quality of life of others, and inspired young people to be better individuals." —Veronica Valderrama
