The Gold Fields mining company hopes to expand its investment portfolio in the country, which is why it is carrying out a study of new projects in different regions, one of which is in Arequipa. The need for Gold Fields is due to the fact that in 2030 it will close its mining project in the Cajamarca region, due to the fact that until that year the mineral extraction will be carried out.

The Vice President of Operations and General Manager of Cerro Corona, Ronald Díaz, stated that in 2025 it will be the pre-closure of the project, so they will stop making heavy investments, which would harm mining royalties. "We have an exploration team that is seeing opportunities in Peru, in Arequipa, Huaráz and Cajamarca. Yes, we have a significant portfolio", manifested.

The mining company has a project in Hualgayoc, Cajamarca. Ronald Díaz stated that the project is only one kilometer from the town center, the distance is a little longer with other annexes, but he stated that since 2008 they have been working hand in hand with the communities to avoid social conflicts.

"We have a permanent relationship, all our workers and agreements with our direct management areas give us the feedback we need. We have joint monitoring, for the subject of blasting, explosions we have installed vibration systems. We comply with all the maximum permitted limits of noise, dust, a social and environmental team distributed in the surroundings to comply with Peruvian regulations", Diaz stated.

But, the company has carried out social work in this sector, carrying out the rural electrification of the area, improvement of infrastructure in health posts, schools and sanitation works that has improved the quality of life of the population.
