From Santiago, the mining company will have intelligent data analysis of the Salares Norte project, located in the Andes mountain range with elevations between 4,200 and 4,900 meters, thanks to the digital platform of the ABB company.

Tuesday, August 30, 2022.- Gold Fields will monitor the Salares Norte project, a gold and silver mine located in the Andes mountain range at elevations between 4,200 and 4,900 meters, from its offices located in Santiago, 1,300 kilometers away, thanks to the ABB Ability Genix digital platform developed by ABB.

With this technology, the mining company will obtain data that will help increase industrial productivity and operational excellence, while reducing costs. Remote connectivity will help reduce the number of people required at the actual mine location, thereby improving safety.

ABB Ability Genix combines the power of industrial analytics and artificial intelligence to integrate 25 engineering, operational and information technology systems across different functional areas, including mining, processing, geology and exploration, asset management , finance, law and human resources.

«Salares Norte deploys a high level of software and digital industrial technology. This is essential for this project due to its remote location: the closest city is Diego de Almagro, 180 km away, the altitude of the project and the adverse weather conditions that make access to the site and field work difficult," he said. Max Combes, Gold Fields Project Manager.

"It required a solution for the remote monitoring center in Santiago that could integrate and contextualize information from many systems, including some common to Chile, as well as perform data analysis," he added.

"ABB will offer a comprehensive integrated electrification, automation and digitalization solution in Salares Norte," said Iván Villegas, ABB representative.

Salares Norte is expected to produce 3.7 million ounces of gold over an initial mine life of 11 years. The operation involves drill, blast, load and haul methods for ore extraction, and has an installed production capacity of two million tons per year.
