Western Australian gold miner Gold Fields donated a precious golden gift to support Telethon to ensure a better life for children now and in the future, raising $125,000.
Gold Fields donated a 99.9% pure one kilogram gold bar to the Channel 7 Telethon Trust, valued at approximately AUD $85,000, which went for $125,000 to a generous bidder at the Telethon Ball auction on Saturday 24 October 2020.
This was the Company's second gold bullion donation to Telethon, when in 2019, Gold Fields and Joint Venture partner Gold Road Resources donated a one kilogram gold bar worth approximately AUD $72,000.
Gold Fields Executive Vice President for Australia, Stuart Mathews, said the Company has a deep commitment to the Western Australian community and it was proud to support Telethon given the breadth of its fundraising efforts in helping young Western Australians across metropolitan and regional areas.
"Telethon unites the people of Western Australia and in the spirit of togetherness we have taken gold from each of our four mines in the Goldfields region and combined it to create a special Telethon bar," Mr Mathews said.
"With Australia and the world facing unexpected challenges this year, we thought that it was more important than ever to make a contribution that will directly benefit children's charities across the State," he continued.
Mr Mathews said intense bidding for the gold bar raised a substantial amount for the charities.
"There is a double benefit for bidders – most importantly, they will be providing vital support for children in WA, but they will be also making a savvy investment in a sought after commodity," he concluded.
