SUSTAINABILITY Emergency response planning

Emergency response planning

Gold Fields operations have developed and implemented site-specific emergency preparedness and response plans (EPRPs) for credible failure modes that could lead to emergencies. The objective of the EPRP is to prevent, mitigate, or reduce impacts in the event an emergency occurs. All our EPRPs, including communications and evacuation alerting, are informed by site-specific dam break inundation studies.

At each operation, Gold Fields aims to define a series of thresholds corresponding to increasing risk related to overtopping or embankment stability failure of TSFs. Detailed risk management actions will be defined and described for each threshold level to prevent upset or unusual conditions.

The aim is to conduct annual emergency response simulations and training at all our operations to maintain a shared state of readiness for tailings facility credible flow failure scenarios.
