SUSTAINABILITY Emergency preparedness and risk mitigation

Emergency preparedness and risk mitigation

Gold Fields prioritises the safety of our people, neighbouring communities, and the environment. Each operation has developed and implemented robust plans to prepare for, respond to, and recover from any credible tailings-related emergency.

Asset-Specific Emergency Plans

Every Gold Fields asset maintains the following key documents, tailored to local risk profiles:

  • Trigger Action Response Plans (TARPs): Define real-time thresholds and pre-agreed responses for embankment stability, seepage, and other critical indicators
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response Plans (EPRPs): Outline procedures for communication, evacuation, and coordination with emergency services
  • Post-Incident Recovery Plans and Procedures: Guide recovery, investigation, and remediation following an event

Preparedness in Action

Each plan is informed by rigorous dam breach analyses and includes:

  • Inundation mapping based on credible failure scenarios
  • Thresholds and early warning systems for TSF performance monitoring
  • Regular simulation drills and training for asset teams and emergency responders
  • Community alerting protocols and coordination with local agencies

We are committed to ensuring our teams and nearby communities are informed, prepared, and protected.
